Abstract.
This article is rgw shortened version of the lecture that I gave in Schloß
Thurnau on 8 May 1989 in the framework of the 21st Séminaire Lotharingien de
Combinatoire. In this lecture, I discussed two types of geometric ornaments that
appear in islamic art: calligraphic ornaments and rosette ornaments.
