Préface
The 55th Meeting of the Séminaire Lotharingien de Combinatoire
took place from September 26 to September 28, 2005 in the
University Centre of Bertinoro (Italy). For the third time the
meeting was joint with the 12th Incontro Italiano di Combinatoria
Algebrica. All participants enjoyed the rich scientific program,
the beautiful landscape and the delicious local food and wine.
The main lectures were given by Pierre CARTIER (CNRS - Paris) "Trees,
polygons and operads (a theory of operations)", "The mosaic
operad and the combinatorics of Stasheff polyhedra" and
"Grafting of graphs, Lie algebras and algebraic groups (with
applications to mathematical physics)."
The invited speakers were Philippe BIANE (ENS - Paris),
"Combinatorics of symmetric groups and random matrices",
"Kerov polynomials" and Andrea BRINI (Università di Bologna),
"Classical invariant theory, combinatorics and superalgebras."
