Surprise Polynomiality in Algebraic Combinatorics
Abstract.
We exposit a general method for explaining "surprise" polynomiality properties of sums in algebraic combinatorics. We present three applications; the first is classical, while the others are recent. Our third application answers a question of Pak-Robichaux, giving a conceptual proof that certain sums of Schubert structure constants are eventually polynomial in all Lie types and computing their lead terms.
