A Galoisian approach to counting walks

Abstract.
In my first talk I will present an introduction to the Galois theory of difference equations aimed at
describing the tools needed to describe the algebraic and differential behavior of generating series that
arise in combinatorics. In the second talk I will describe how these tools were used to understand the
nature of generating series for walks in the quarter plane.
