Inverse scattering transform for the Toda hierarchy with steplike finite-gap backgrounds

Abstract: We provide a rigorous treatment of the inverse scattering transform for the entire Toda hierarchy for solutions which are asymptotically close to (in general) different finite-gap solutions as n→±∞.
