Abstract: In the introductory part of the talk, we give an overview of large scale index theory in the spirit of John Roe and related concepts such as K-theory of C*-algebras. In the second part, we present new applications of large scale index theory to obtain obstructions against positive scalar curvature (PSC) on fibre bundles over certain aspherical manifolds. If time permits, we also discuss the higher rho-invariant which can be used to distinguish spin bordism classes of PSC metrics.
