Its Department of Mathematics is a renowned center for various research areas and provides a vibrant intellectual climate where graduate students thrive. We aim to develop a broad framework for understanding mathematics across various fields. As we establish this larger purview, we also cultivate a deep awareness of mathematical concepts and ideas within a given research area.

Thesis advisors work with students individually to prepare the young researchers for a promising scientific career in academics and industry. The Research Group Algebra offers a regular colloquium series along with the many opportunities to interact with scholars at neighboring scientific institutions in Vienna. Students are expected to integrate in the existing working groups and to participate in the ongoing scientific dialogue in the department.
